But, I envy those women who have an option to sit back home and do the daily chores. Home makers, who don't feel guilty of not working. They get all the happiness by making delicious dishes for their husband and kids and extended family members and friends. They may get worried about increasing food prices but fluctuation in stock market does not bother them. Few words of appreciation for the food they prepared give them more happiness than an annual salary review. Their happiness quotient is far too higher than any average working woman. They get all the pleasure of life. They get the privilege of seeing their kids growing. Yes, they may have their days of stress and discomfort when they need to bear their mother in laws all day long. But then, that is better than jellofi (bear) your arrogant boss. They can take nap when they feel drowsy and go for shopping whenever they feel like. They don't need to sip cups and cups of kaffine to pretend that they are awake.

Wonder why the heck people call these home workers, soft and weak. They have actually got the covetous job which all the working people aspire for.

My dream company.

When I was a student, I wanted to be a teacher. Because, I always had many ideas to make teaching better, to improve students performance and to teach life lessons to them. I got this opportunity for a short while after college. I feel very content with the way I taught. Mainly, because my class not only loved me, but I earned respect from them. I am not saying this to just appreciate myself, but students have shared these feelings. Best proof is, even after more than five years they are in touch and ask my opinion in making choices. Class's overall passing percentage was more than 80% (without any outside coaching). Same class had 20 -30% success rate in other subjects. This was a great feeling of content. I think my, childhood lessons paid an important role in being successful as teacher. I hope to teach sometime again in my life.

After teaching, I have been working as software engineer for many years now. Have got chance to work with both big giants and small start ups. While working, I always dream about how will my own company (one day) look like. Here are my thoughts:

* No one in my dream company will work for more than eight hours a day. That includes lunch and tea breaks. Along with that will ensure that no one actually works less than seven hours a day. I have spent 12 hours at office. But never any good came out of that. Mostly, the time I spent beyond normal hours deteriorated the quality. Forced me to work more the next day to fix the mistakes I did, when I was tired. Needless to say, demotivated me and increased my frustration.

* Working hours will be 9-5, 10-6 or 11-7. That will give people flexibility of time, but they will still have common hours to work with each other.

* Saturdays will be the optional holidays. Employee can either take off on Saturday or on any other week day. This will give employees more time to finish their chores. As most of the businesses are close on official weekends.

* This is difficult to implement but my favorite. From my personal experience, there have been times, when I had no work to do. but could not leave office before 6 PM. You all know why. In my dream company, it will be target based. Any one who accomplishes his tasks/targets on time can leave for the day without any guilt. Of course, its not straight forward to implement. But its achievable. Just need to take care of many other factors before implementing this. Like ensuring that everyone has enough work in front of them before start of day and every one is self motivated and have the feeling of ownership.

* Each employee will have 1-1 session with their mentors at least once in a month(Not managers). This solves two purposes. First, the mentor feels powerful as he gets a chance to lecture some one (everyone loves that). Second, this helps in understanding the employees expectations and provides a platform to motivate him and explain him the common motives of company. Usually, company's have annual reviews. But those reviews are used as means of promoting or firing employees. All through the year, employee never gets to know about his weaknesses or strengths. This not only demotivates but also adds frustration.

* To accomplish above, One important aspect needs to be taken care. Give mentors authority to make decisions. This is more essential from the juniors point view of whom the mentor is grooming. This imparts confidence in them, that if they share some thing with their mentor, he will take care of it. And obviously, it imparts motivation and ownership in mentors.

----Contd

Many of these points are sheer common sense, but still not found commonly.

10 reasons I love twitter for,

10 reasons I love twitter because:

1) I can follow any one without waiting for their approval. Madam Sheila Dixit won three consecutive terms because she was projected as making Apni Dilli a world class city on behest of CWG. Finally, the most awaited year 2010 arrived and all the preparation started tasting bitter. For past couple of months am listening and reading about it in all the papers. Today was extreme. I almost fell into tears while listening to BBC on the way to office. Why is it that each time word 'India' appears on TV/Radio its always associated with corruption & poverty. Still have doubts whether its the poverty which makes people corrupt or its the other way around.

Have many 'whats' and 'whys' in my mind. But want to think deeper. Is it just because of corrupt politicians and contractors.

Not explaining what is going at CWG but have many questions.

1) Why did India take this project? Was it just because our neighbour flaunted its power in Olympics.

2) Even if the govt took this project and wanted to showcase the shining India, why were these contracts not distributed to private firms.

3) When will out bureaucratic system end? When will people start taking responsibility? But the bigger question: Is it only a problem with 'Babu logs' or is it the issue with our basic upbringing. I believe its the attitude. I have seen in many occasions that even in prestigious IT sector other than handful of people most of the guys still want to enjoy the luxuries of Babu's without actually doing any good work. Even if they are forced to meet targets the quality of work is not equivalent to their international peers.

4) Where did billions go? If they had spent even 1/4th of the money on actual development of Delhi at least they could have contained river Yamuna.

List keeps growing. I don't know how the issues can be solved but I just want to know how can I be a part of change. In the end I just thank God that "They are not blaming this failure to Pakistan."

Good old days.

I was trying to make a call to my mom. But she was not picking up. Tried multiple times but in vain. I got little worried. So, tried our neighbor's phone. After talking I felt relaxed. But, moments later, started thinking. In this era of mobile phones, when I don't event remember my own mobile number, I could recall three of my neighbors' numbers. That made me nostalgic and took me to my childhood memories.

I remembered these numbers because our entire street got their landlines on the same day. Three of us have phone numbers in sequence(34006/07/08). I clearly remember the day when we got these numbers. We had applied for land line for four years. The process of installing wires in our region took weeks. And one fine day, telephone exchanges waale uncle came to each of our house and installed the handsets. We all kids were too excited and so were our parents.

Before this, almost four streets shared one phone. I am talking about long before STDs and PCSs became popular. There was only one house in the entire region which had phone. Each one of us gave that number to our relatives as emergency contact number. That uncle was a retired army person. He used to charge 50 paisa to listen to his phone. Thinking about it now makes me laugh.

Whenever my sister and I visited our relatives' place who had phone, we made calls to our friends when no body could see us. Infact sometimes that was the only reason we visited them.

No need to say that time has changed. Now there are more phones in a home than number of family members. But Those were good old days.
<img width='1' height='1' any reward.Especially in today's competitive economy. Can you think about working on something without worrying about returns. But,finally I understood its meaning.Actually this is an epitome of life. When you start working on something without looking at returns your entire energy shifts from hanging fruit to your work. That energy transforms your work from good to better and better. You become scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Western'/>

Is modern synonym to west?

On hearing the word 'Modern' the term 'western' automatically pops in.I kinda agree that modern actually means western or in other words west is modern. But I completely disagree with the picture of west which is usually projected. For a common person in east a modern person means a person who wears western clothes, smokes, booze or go to discos. While these attributes are completely acceptable for an eastern male but for females they are completely No No.Well I am not debating the discrimination between males and females. My point here is do these terms actually describe the word modern. Is west all about clothes and parties?
I strongly disagree. In my view a person is modern if he can think and think logically and objectively without any prejudice.A person who is ready to accept the change.Someone who can understand the rules of society and knows the importance of it.Who can understand why those rules were laid and weather they still hold good.Who is ready to change these rules for the good of society.Who is not ready to accept those obligations because these existed or because his grandparents or his parents followed them. But he is ready to fight against or for them as he understands their importance.Someone who is ready to adopt the good without discriminating against its origin. At the same time someone who understands his and his societies weaknesses and is ready fix them.A person who respects not only his culture or religion but others too.
In all these attributes west is modern.People at west do not just destroy something because it is influenced from east. They don't vandalize other places of worship because those are not according to their religion. They treat their wives and mothers and ladies with respect and dignity. They adopt the good attributes from everywhere be it Yoga,Ayurveda,Clothes or Food.Take any modern female from west to the streets of Delhi.I bet in two days she will ask you to buy her a pair of 'salwaar kmeez' unless she already came prepared.Because a modern person understands and respects others culture.(I at least had two such instance in front of me).
Take a look at history-you will find modern people everywhere.I am thinking of Raja Ram Mohan Roy.He was undoubtedly a great modern visionary. Can you believe we were actually burning widows alive on the name of rituals. If modern people like him had not existed we would have been living in the stone age.
Hence wearing western clothes does not make you modern but its their thoughts which made west modern.
What a difference!!

For past few months it was all chaotic. I was restless ,mind was wondering in all the possible directions. was feeling like I am lost in the world. Had no clear vision of what am I trying to achieve. Root of all this "My Job Hunt".(Experiences while hunting for a job needs separate post). All that chaos resulted in lost of direction. Everything,I was doing was just dumb. My work at current job was going in a hole. I was extremely dissatisfied of all the efforts. Feeling of 'good for nothing' started to dominate.
All this frustrated me enough that I decided to not to run in this rat race. Have decided to be more calm and think through my actions than just running purposelessly. Decided to focus on what i actually love - Reading and my job. It did not take longer to feel more relaxed. The moment I decided to focus my work efficiency improved dramatically. I can feel it my self. This feeling gives me immense satisfaction.Helps me in gaining my confidence back.Makes me realize that I am not that bad. Helps me in taking things lightly. Helps me in knowing what I want.Helps me in coping up with the pressure.
I am pleasantly surprised with the power of mind.As my husband always says ,"its all in mind".It truely is. Any one can go to hunger strike? How can an accuse of assassination of none other but countries' Prime Minister has guts to do that. Does she realize the depth of crime she has committed? I don't care how many years of imprisonment she has served and whether her only kid has no one else to look after. All I know is :she is an accused of murder of PM. No matter what her circumstances were and why she committed that heinous crime. Whether she was ignorant or not. But I want everyone to know that there is no escape route once you are involved is such an act. So think not once or twice but hundred times.

Also whats wrong with Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Ms Priyanka Gandhi? With due respect want to say that Don't look at Nalini as a murderer of husband or father. Please don't try to take any political advantage by advocating early release for her. She is a murderer of Prime Minister of India. Entire country lost a valuable and honorable leader. She deserves no empathy.

She should remain behind bars until she dies. They are going to outsource it to the teams at India, China. Makes perfect business sense. But that is not a happy news for me.As that means I will not have a job in few months.

Other than several thoughts which pass my mind -like what next, how are we going to manage and blah blah ,I was also thinking about the reason given to me. It was easier to just blame and start hating Bl**dy Indians if I was not one among them. Certainly, I can't do that. That is my home.I got my first job there because of outsourcing itself. Did I think at that time that this job actually belongs to some one else.So obviously I don't have that choice of cribbing for the cause which benefited me some time back.

Though, I have an option to go back to India. But Is that a guaranteed success path? Probably not.Sooner or later some other countries will emerge with same skills but less cost. So does that mean my skills are getting cheaper day by day? difficult to answer but answer is 'Yes'. Hence moral of the story is In this new globalized world need to develop skills which are not so globally available.

Luck Vs Karma

Have you heard people saying - "Its all pre decided. You cant do much about life. God has written your faith even before you were born". I have heard it numerous times. Every time I hear it I wonder then why do we need to work. Why do we need to work even hard. Why don't we just sit and relax. After all everything is pre decided .Things will fall in place by itself .We have to do nothing. But then the same people start saying ,"You should do your Karma and forget about reward".Geeta says that.

It always leaves me wondering which statement to believe in.Though I am a strong believer of Karma but then what is this luck all about. Is it just a condolence term?

After years of thought process ,I finally came to conclusion. Both statements are equally true. Its like a flow diagram.Complete flow is predefined but then there are decision boxes. At various points in life you need to decide and make choices. Rest of the flow depends on the choices you made.

So though everything is pre written and pre defined, depending on your Karma you will encounter different choices. And as I said earlier these choices impact rest of your life

So moral of the story is - Life is all about choices you make.

Do we need Innovation team??

'Innovation' is the new trend. Companies are spending thousands if not millions to be called innovative and survive in the continuously changing world. But how to identify the innovative ideas. Many companies actually have teams and people designated for innovation. But could this type of arrangement actually work and succeed.

Yes this is the general practice at many places. But normally this practice limits the true innovation. People who are part of so called 'innovation team' are either so busy in innovating that they actually miss the true essence of it or they start thinking of themselves the only 'Innovators' around.

On the other hand people around them become so complacent about all this 'Innovation' talk that they think -Its not my job. Even if they have better idea they feel no one will actually listen to them or explain to them and they prefer to remain quiet.

Doesn't this actually kill many potential successful ideas before they are born? I am not trying to say the ideas presented by non designated people will be significantly important . But not listening to those ideas actually inhibits the further thought process.

I believe -A true innovative idea can come from anywhere even from a kid or form an outsider. So having a team or a person dedicated for innovation is not only wasteful but harmful too.

In my view there should only be a team who implements innovative ideas but not solely designated to innovate. The responsibility of innovation should be given to everyone and should be shared by all.

Google It!!!

As I always say - 90% of Software development for 90% of Software Engineers will become impossible if 'Google' vanishes suddenly.

All the Software Professionals know what I meant by above. Google It.

I was just thinking the way Google has replaced all the dictionaries ,encyclopedia and books :Is it coming closer to replacing 'Leads' and 'Mentors' and teachers and your 'social friends' and may be Doctors too? Because Google has solution for each and every problem. If you dare to ask your mentor a doubt-I am sure he will reply back saying "Havent you googled it?" So why do you need him ?

If your friend just starts talking about some stuff which you have no idea and dare to ask - he might point you to http://justfuckinggoogleit.com .Yes that happened. Isn't Google just destroying all your social network(Not on Facebook or Orkut).

If you are worried about pain in chest -just google it and see if you actually need to worry or not? Google will tell you that chest pain could be simply because of acidity. So skip some caffeine and save an expensive trip to your Doctor.

Moral of the story is --If you have any doubt or question no matter related to your health or career or personal - just Google It!!!

Attitude makes it all

Just ended another phone call with a customer representative(CR) who said she is a Relationship manager. As usual disappointed again. Disappointed because these CRs are so irresponsible. They are not ready to listen to what customer has to say. I get hurt not because my issue is not resolved but by looking at the level of Irresponsibility. I come across same kind of people again and again . I feel bad because these people never grow up. They are happy to take pay checks without fulfilling their duties.

I started pondering whether it is the mistake of Hiring Manager or Hiring System or Education System . Hiring system which gives more emphasis on paper degrees but look no further to check the attitude and ambitions of a person. Or Education System which is so focused on embedding the hard skills in students in hard way and completely neglects the most essential soft skills. Or is this the mistake of parents; who are too busy to teach their kids about important Values. They just want their kids to get good grades without thinking about how the kid is actually growing.

This female said she has an MBA degree. And the way she replied to my mails was no better than a 5th grader. When I asked her on phone whether she knew what was i asking for - she said and I quote "You were getting some error and I reset the password" . Actual issue was -I wanted some person from their team to help me in doing my stuff when I was out of country. My password was working correctly and ever since she reset my password I could not check my account. Reason - I did not have my mobile with me where she sent the password. I had already told her this in mail. The error which she misunderstood was internal error on their website which I was not able to access. She just did not read my mail and replied in haste doing exactly opposite of what I asked for. When I said "Do you realize your mistake." She said it was not a big mistake. That showed the value she gives to time. And just to let you know this time was costing me money. In a week's mail communication she had no clue of what I was asking her.

If I attach my mail you can clearly read my query in three of my mails in bullet points. At last I had to read my mail word by word on phone. To which, I was atleast expecting an apology.I was surprised and annoyed at the same time to get a reply like "It was not that big of a mistake. You send me another mail and I will send you the reply" .

Atlast I realized there is no point in showing the path to a blind person and raising my Blood pressure.I asked her if she could give me her Manager's email id. I was lucky.Without excuse or may be in arrogance she gave me her manager's id(Hope it is actually her Managers's) and I hung the phone thanking her for her time.

Lessons Learnt:

1) Brands are important. After all Brands are not made in a day. Brands are made with consistent performance and quality. People who want to build brand know the value of quality they provide and clients. They hire smart staff who share the same passion. They have values and make sure those values become guiding mantras for their employees. So no matter what you are buying or dealing with think about its brand value. It reflects the management.

2) India Shining is no where closer . Lots and lots is to be done.

3) Attitude is the key: No matter what you do and where you are its your attitude which makes the difference. You cant garland your paper degrees everywhere. And look no further than your computer to know what attitude can do. After all Bill Gates never finished his college.

Quest to be the Best!!

When I was in high school - On showing answer sheets to mom, was always confronted with same question ,"Who got the highest?"

Later there were many debates on this topic . Whether it is a good practice to relate? Or Whether each student should be appreciated for what ever S/he got. Whether it motivates a student or does the opposite?

I am not here to debate but just to write my thoughts. I think it has definitely motivated me . Always inspired me to be among the best. No doubt, there was always an extra burden while writing exams and more while getting back answer sheets. There was always more curiosity about knowing the competitors marks than your own.

Today, after more than a decade; I realize how important this question is. If handled with care, it plays a very important role in one's life. It is the quest of being among the best which differentiates . It is the quest which makes you to go out of comfort zone. It is the quest which innovates. It is the quest which prohibits you from being complacent.

I dont get it.

There is so much hue and cry about homosexual marriages getting legal status. Every week there is atleast one news about it. Some where people are protesting against it and somewhere for it. It has become a deciding factor in making or dropping the governments in various countries.

On the other hand each day I see many people becoming a part of live in relationships. Day by day the value of marriage is diminishing. It limits their freedom. People give excuses - they dont want to commit, not ready, dont want to face the challenges of marriage and so on.

It leaves me thinking - what do people want? I think people always want what they dont have. Its the natural tendency to go against the rules. Break the rules. Go and get what other say is not for you.

I dont get it. I am still thinking.

Books Vs Online Material

In case you noticed In my previous posts I have always been a technology admirer. Have always mesmerized by the new inventions and specifically Web. This time I have contradictory views.

I was thinking about how we use google for any to all things. I always say if google is not there we cant work(code) . But then I think Is google (online material) good enough to learn? Can online reading replace the books? I strongly think there is no match.

Books have many many advantages over online material.

1) You can only read the stuff online which you have an idea about. Normally the topics which you have some doubts or which you have some issues with .But what about plethora of material which you dont even know.

2) Books teach you step by step. You get to know many things which you never think about. Since you never think about them you can never google them .

3) Dont forget the old time markers. Yes I know you can book mark pages which you read online but still books come handy when you need to go through those topics again. Once you finish a book you brain always keep an impression of topics with layout of pages. You can easily track the old topic.

4) You can read book anywhere .Yes I know everything is getting Wi-fi equipped but still there is a long way to go.

5)Book gives you a direction and you always have a goal to finish. While you can easily forget about online links. If in case your computer shuts down before you book marked it ,there is 90% chance you will never revisit that page and In case you already bookmarked there is 95% chance you will never open your bookmark list again.

6)Online material usually have links to other pages.Clicking on those links will distract you and you will end up reading a totally different topic which had no connection to what you were reading initially.

7) Very Important in my view Books give you a common platform . You can talk about those books to other people. This helps you understanding people from their taste of books.

These are my views so If you want to actually learn some thing keep Google as a reference and buy a book. Atleast you will have other motivation to read it since you have spent few bucks on it.

How kool is that!!!

Last time when I was reading Thomson Friedman's book " World is Flat" , I was amazed when he cited the incident of Japan.Wherein he, with his friend was sitting in a train. His friend opened up his lap top and they were connected to world through Wi-fi.

This time I was all the more excited as I experienced it myself . I was able to chat in India and US while I was traveling in Europe. How kool is that ,I was connected to whole world at the same time :)

More to it, I did not need to take leave for this trip. Surprised?? Yes, thatz true I just took two days leave for my entire trip of ten days. No, I did not club my trip with public holidays but I was working remotely. Again thanks to technology. You would have said and heard this many times. But in this era it has actually become true.

Now u can do many tasks just on click. Just remember when was the last time when you waited in a queue to pay for bill or to book train tickets. I know it was not long back when you might need to take a day off to finish of these inevitable things. I remember that time I used to dream that there should be aladin ka chiraag(magical gin) to do all these things and see it has actually become a reality. Internet is no less than a super powered gin.

But there are still some things which you have to do on your own. One of them is cooking and eating :). After cooking dinner after lunch and breakfast I was thinking(dreaming) .

There should be some automatic way to do that. I was so tired of buying grocery and cooking thrice a day. I still remember that when I was a kid I used to say there should be a zipper on the stomach to engulp the food. Now with all this technology around, my thoughts have become more wilder. Now I think there should be more than that.

There should be two pipelines coming to your home. No, not to supply gas. These pipelines will supply Essential Flavoured Nutrients. You can open up the valve ,Select the amount, select your flavours, select the percentage of protein ,carbohydrates and other minerals you want and fill your vessel. Wait this vessel is not a simple bowl. This will be a cylinder with spray valve. You have to just spray it in your mouth and you are done. You can choose it spray it continuously or on your way. If you are one of those who carry their lunch box long with then you just need to fill that cylinder with appropriate amount. There are no issues of big and small cylinder . You can simply make the fluid more concentrated. Imagine in that situation when you get up in the morning you just need to fill your cylinder .May be your company already has the pipelines in the office so no need to even carry.I think this will be the FASTEST possible food.

Are you thinking why do we need to pipelines, Let me take a moment to explain. These two pipelines will work alternatively . Vendors will be replenishing them continuously. Every alternate day one pipeline will be sterilized to avoid any kind of contamination.
Just imagine at that time all these big grocery malls will turn to nutrients supplying vendors. The success of these vendors will depend on the standards they follow to provide hygienic food. Their capability to continuous on time supply. There might be offers of getting a strawberry flavour free with Mango flavour. Being a vegetarian ,there should be pure vegetarian suppliers. They need to take special precautions to avoid leakage. Otherwise , beggars may be the frequent visitors to your place(inhaling the free supply from your pipeline) There will be discount offers of one day free supply with a year long package or may be free cylinders with pipelines.

During Diwali ,X-Mas they will supply different flavors of sweets, chocolates etc. Your package may vary as in you can get different type of flavours on different days. Imagine getting Italian on one day, Thai on other , Indian food on next day.How many flavours you can get will define the your status.
Oh My God!!!My imaginations are going beyond myself. I am stopping it here. Let me know your thoughts.

Be Honest

Life comes as full circle. One has to continuously and repeatedly deal with people.Sometimes one has to work with people to whom S/he never wants to see again. But that never happens. from my not much but small experiences I have realized that life makes sure you come across people to whom you never want to meet.

There will be many situations when you do things which you dont like to.Given a chance you will leave at the very moment. But life is not fair. There might be different priorities which force you to do many things against your wishes. Many of those things have happened to me as well. And I have learnt that no matter what you are asked to do, no matter whether you like to do that job or whether it is enforced you need to do your job with honesty. It always pays in longer run. It may happen that you come across same person some time. If you had done your work responsibly you will always feel comfortable and confident to approach them.

I have many incidents to recite regarding this but I dont want to bore you with that. All I want to say is earth is round and you are bound to meet same people again and again so do your share of work with honesty. In case you have some issues which forbids you to perform your duties be honest and let your manager/master know. You might suffer short term losses but you will earn long term good will.

Be honest to your duties ,responsibilities your colleagues ,clients or whosoever you come across. As I said you might not like the job you are doing but after all you are not getting paid to like the job but to do the job.

Remember Honesty is still a best policy.

Uncle's Shop (Part II)

In my last article I supported big malls coming up .I said that it might not matter too much for our Uncles' . But today I got the news that shop beneat my house is shutting down. They are not able to sustain now.Earnings are decreasing day by day due to upcoming shopping malls. I felt so sad.

The bond I was talking last time became more evident. He was not a mere shopkeeper but our neighbour too.We never had to worry about buying essential groccery no matter whether we had money or not. It never mattered whether it was end of month or starting. It never mattered whether out relatives or parents were visiting us when we were running short of money.

I remember at times I used to run late for my office and on the way just used to grab my packet of biscuits for break fast without even asking the price and without even paying for it. Some times used to pick it up by my own to avoid the waiting period because of other customers.

Can never even think of repeating the same in any big mall. No body will give u any thing even if you are just a penny short.

Thats the importance of these uncles shops.

I gonaa miss them a lot.

Brave or Foolish!!!!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_o7ydwpENvhQ/SJFAhtH7g-I/AAAAAAAAAFs/vd7Tm4PVBSU/s320/terror_tech_ftn_313.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5229031590146573282" />
Just take a look at this image.

What do you think who are these guys and what are they doing!!!! This is not the Einstein Theory of relativity (E=mc2).

This is my theory. In my view everything in this universe is relative. If one says he is rich.He is actually saying he is richer than some one else in some or other manner. One is never poor but he is always poorer. If a student is intelligent it means his class mates(Students of same age group) are not as intelligent as he his.

Imagine an era where every one has just one car one house and one job of same salary. Now tell me who is rich. Did you say every one. I think you are relating this scenario with your psychology. You are relating it with your knowledge. You are still thinking that there are people who don't have these amenities. So actually you are comparing.

Now if you can leave your definitions lil away for a while and think about another scenario where people have nothing. They are nomadic. They go places in search of food and live happily after getting it. They can sleep any where night falls. Now you are saying they are poor. I don't agree.I think they are as rich as the people of first scenario.

One is brave. That statement is a comparison. It says rest of his companions are not as brave as he is. If any one can go and join Army and confront with enemies or fight with wild animals there is no question who is brave.

One is Nice. It means rest of the people are actually not as nice as he is.One is a good cook.it means there is a possibility of cooking bad food.

I feel there is no adjective as such .There are only comparisons. One is braver than other or is richer or poorer. And I think this comparison is the motivation of doing things. This is the feeling of comparison which drives one towards betterment.

From child hood we always learn to do better and better and be in a better situation. This is the impetus to go on.

Team Effort won us World Cup 1983

Its been 25 years since we won the world cup in cricket (25th June 1983).
Really appreciate the BCCI for felicitating and honouring the heroes. For the first time I got a chance to see all of them together in a team.(As I was just two when they played :) )

They were sharing the memories and precious moments of their life. While watching them I realised how good they gel as a team. Each of them were showering the praises for their team partners and captain (Kapil Dev). Then the captain Kapil Dev made a speech and praised each one of his scouts. His speech showed how well acknowledged he was with the abilities of each member.

There could be a little bit rivalry between little master(Sunil Gvaskar) and Kapil Paaji. But no one was leaving behind to sing about others accomplishments. After hearing them about their feelings and intuitions at that time,I felt how these players had huge respect for their team members. They had confidence in each other and their captain. The captain had a full faith in his squad. He was so motivating. Also as we all know he is so simple and down to earth.Just imagine how good the dressing room would be with their high spirits.

I felt a particular kind of dedication in each one of them. A true sports man spirit was there. No one had any attitude.I was thinking about that time when there was not much money involved.Cricketers used to play for their country and for the love of game. There was not much hype not much advertisements.

There was not a good past record of Indian Cricket. But I think, it was the real team spirit and bonding between players which won us the prestigious World Cup. It does not matter how good and world class players we have in the team. What matters is how nicely these players cover for each other. How they cover for others weaknesses and enhance their strengths. IPL winner Rajesthan Royals is an another evidence of team winning over Stars. When one learns to keep the game and team over personal interests no one can stop him/her from winning any game.

Watch the players @

http://www.cricketnext.com/videos/32374/1983-champions-recall-magic-moments.html

Kapil Dev's sppech

http://www.cricketnext.com/videos/32320/watch-kapil-heaps-praise-on-83-teammates.html

Why Do People.......

Why do people blog:

1) Because gone are the days when you had enough time to hang out with friends. To express your views, to listen to others. Now people sitting next to each other prefer to hook to their computer than indulging in any argument.Any thing which is not required is considered as 'interfernce'.Thanks to BPOs and IT/ITes people hardly have common time to share their thoughts. Either coz of odd work hours or coz of frequent travel.

2)While blogging people are able to express them selves in a better way. Genuinely people are more comfortable while writng than speaking. Not everone is a blessed orator.

3) People get their own time to express their views without fear of confrontation with any one in the middle.

4) The most important point the audience is huge. After all your thoughts are on www(world wide web)

I was wondering Why am I writing on blog.....My reason is simple I am sitting alone in my apartment with no one to talk to and I could not find any other better time pass.

So thought of boring you guys when you are in the same boat.Hopefully it helped you in killing few moments, while you have nothing in hand to do than staring at your System :p
Myth About Punjabis

Main ik Punjab di Kudhi !!!!Te mera naa ha ..................... Wait a sec .What did you think? My name is some XYZ Kaur??Nopes it is Neeru Gupta and yes I am a Punjabi. I am a proud Punjabi.
Yep, I get the same impression whenever; I tell some one my name and my place. People all through world think that all Punjabis are Sikhs and have their last name either Kaur(for gals) or Singh(For Guys) . But actually it is not the case.
There is no doubt that Punjab is the land of Ten Gurus. Main religion is Sikhism. Almost everone is aware of this. But how many people know about ‘Sikhism’. What it actually means? How did it originate?
Sikhism was actually founded by Tenth and last Guru ,Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699 AD . So who are the rest of Nine Gurus. What religion they followed!!!!
All of them were Hindus. Sikhism was not started as separate religion but it was originated for a purpose. It was the time of Mugal emperrors. When Aurganjeb and his ministers were forcing people to convert themselves to Muslims. At that time Guru Teg Bahadur(Father of Guru Gobind Singh) was fighting against the evil. After his 'shadhi' Guru Gobind Singh was elected as new Guru.
Guru Gobind Singh was fighting against the big Mugals. He had to build his own army. He asked his people to send one of their son to army. These army men were called ‘Singh' (The Lion) . This way Guru ji started building his army. But over a period of time it became difficult to differentiate between 'Singhs' and Mugal army men. Many of the ‘Sinhs’ were getting killed by mistake by their own men.To recognize 'Singhs' Guru ji founded Khalsa panth. He asked his ‘Shers’(Lions) to keep 'kais' long hair and wear 'paghdhi' (turbon) . It made the identification easier. He asked them to keep 'kirpaan' (sword ) with themselves all the time. This was a sign of being ready to attack the enemy any time. He asked them to wear kadha, kangi(comb) and kacha. Then they took oath to serve their nation and fight against evil. Since now Sikhs follow this custom. This is called 'Amrit Chhakna' (Baptism) .
So this was how Sikhism was originated. This tradition of sending one son to army continued for long time and then their next families started following it as religion. Over a period of time it came up as different reigion .A religion in which wearing turbon became a symbol . People forgot the puprose. But actually these Sikhs are none different than 'Hindus' . Their ancistors were Hindu.
This is the story of origin of a beutiful religon. A religion which was originated for a purpose of Service. Till date these Sikhs and people of Punjab have fought bravely in every war. War against terrorism or war against cross border enemies. I am so proud to be a part of this Land though I am not Sikh and Punjab doesnt belong to Sikhs only.

Kya tumhe yaad ha....

An old forward but good one.........................................

When gulli-danda and kanche (marbles) were more popular than cricket ...

When we always had friends to play aais-paais (I Spy), chhepan-chhepai and pitthoo anytime ...

When we desperately waited for 'yeh jo hai jindagi'...

When chitrahaar, vikram-baitaal, dada daadi ki kahaniyaan were so fulfilling ...

When there was just one TV in every five houses and

When bisleris were not sold in the trains and we were worrying if papas will get back into the train in time or not when they were getting down at stations to fill up the water bottle ...

When we were going to bed by 9.00pm sharp except forthe 'yeh jo hai jindagi' day ...

When Holis & Especially, when it comes to getting ready and going out I am damn lazy. I hate traveling as I feel exhausted. Stepping out of home is more of a task for me than fun. Whenever I step out I hardly care about what am I wearing. Partially it is because of my sheer laziness and partially because of my attitude of choosing convenience over style. Being a strong believer of simplicity I don't care much while picking up the clothes as long as those are comfortable and not look extremely bad. I used to believe that while you are traveling people dont know you so you can wear any thing.

But I realized now that actually the same reason that people don't know you well forces you to take care of what you wear all the more. As people identify you with what you wear. After all your clothes will give them the first impression of your identity. I know it sounds silly .Like you I also believed that what difference it makes, When you don't know him and most likely not gonna meet him again . But it makes a difference ,I presume no body wants to get a rash treatment from a security guard or for that matter from a auto rickshaw driver. After all those guys know nothing about you than your style. it becomes very embarrassing when in front of others those guys ignore you .Believe me your attire has a role to play in their behavior.

So take a minute before you step out of your house. You may not be visiting any one but still you expect a decent treatment from the people on the way.

Some one has chosen an appropriate punch line for his/her boutique "You are what you wear"

Fools' Paradise

Have you ever seen two people deep in thoughts discussing about a BIG business Idea!!!!!!

I am sure u would have come across them at least once in your life time. (Amway is very famous in India.usually I see their agents at CCD).Yep!!! I am talking about a marketing agent of an MLN(Multi Level Networking)

For me I share a close relation with these MLN associates. Yes they call their agents “Associates “.Term looks more lucrative. Isn’t it!!!! Yep!!!! That’s the beauty of it. These agents or so called associates are very well versed with their strategies. If you get a chance to listen to them ,you will feel like why the hell you were doing so much of hard work and earning just peanuts. Why did you spend years in studying hard and earning good grads, degree or clearing entrances. As ultimate aim is to become rich and famous. Look at these guys ,they are earning moolas. They will make you believe that you can be millionaire in no time. They will never speak in hundreds or thousands but always in six digits.yep they will start from you number ‘01’ and before you realize the magic they do with numbers, you will be somewhere on moon, counting millions/lacs.

As I said initially I share a close relation with them .My first job was with a MLN firm. Though, I was working in back office in technical department. But I was lucky to get a chance to meet our associates. At times there used to be gatherings .Attendance of all employees used to be mandatory. As it helps to know about business. Being techie it helped us to know the importance of software we were making. How critical were these as a small misfit of simple ‘if/else’ can change the flow of money. Before I divert towards technical side of it ,lets come back and talk about associates.

These associates are really great sellers. I think they are better than any marketing people who have business degrees. The enthusiasm they have is noticeable. They have great selling (fooling) capabilities. They are confident. They are confident of their product .Atleast they look confident. Now why are these MLN companies are making so much money .Basically they target middle class/poor people.who have big dreams but less resources.Everone wants to earn more and more. These guys show them BIG dreams. These Associates generally approach people to whom they know. So they don’t need to spend much energy in finding out what their client actually wants. They know the weak point and strike directly there. On the other side new person (bakra) trusts his friend .As they know each other. And since he is already in business and shows that he is making money or atleast he has a list of candidates who have become lakhpatis and crorepatis after joining this business. Few of them have also left their jobs. All these things make the poor fellow believe that he is going to be at least better than his current situation. If spending a hew hundreds can earn him lacs they Why Not!!! And here he is trapped. Once he pays to Associate, Associate gets his commission but this poor fellow is excited for a while. But does he really possess the skills of marketing (fooling) .If he is lucky he might be able to sell the idea to others and get out of it. But somewhere down the line there are hundreds of people(Associate) who were promised they will get their money automatically as soon as someone joins them. They are never able to do that and loose their hard earned money.

Yes that’s a fact. hardly 10% of people make money from these shortcuts. Yes!!they make tons but there are many more who get deceived. They can’t even complain as its up to them to fool others and get their money .Yes!!that’s the idea of this business. You get fooled by someone and you are suppose to fool others. But It not every ones cuppa tea.
Suddenly this idea of writing about MLN came to my mind as after coming to US first call I got was from an associate who wanted to earn me easy money. Moment he started talking about his great business ,I asked him is it MLN.I could make it out from the way he was speaking .Basically the way he was selling the idea to me without explaining anything about business. I was amazed as I thought this was a business for county of poor people like India. But people are same always and so is Money.
Everyone wants more and more!!!

Common Sense

Recently I attended an interview with one of the top IT company at Bangalore. I was pretty excited after all technical rounds.Went for final HR interview. I will like to discuss my expereience in that.

Q1 : Why did you do Engineering and why Chemical Engineering

:O after 4.5 years of expereince I was least prepared for this question.wanted to say the truth that Engineering has better job prospects than any thing else.and enhances the IQ but gave some blah...

Q2:describe ur self in 5 adjectives!!!
again gave some blah

Q3: Why do u think u r Adj3.Proove by some condition.

Q4:What was your favourite subject.

I was getting so irritated on these Qs and then came the final one.

Qxx:You dont want to relocate to Delhi?

I said no.

She asked : Why?do you like blr?

said yes.

She asked : why?

said its safer than delhi.

She exlained it lil more : Oh yes it is safer as in south India people have more family values and r more conservative and are God fearing so crime is less.....

I got really shocked at this explaination and asked her again what exactly she meant.people in North have no values?
She tend to say the same thing. Finally, interrupted her in between and explained her that every person has values. Its not about region .But its about conditions. Typically in Delhi people come from remote regions and people are illitrate and unemployed .People are poor and so their conditons are pathetic .So crime rate is more.

explained this to her and walked off.

I was really shocked the way she said this.i was thinking how could a well educated person who is representing a company can make a statement like this.

I think need to improve our education system a lot . Or its just the sense of speaking right at the right place, which no education provides.I call it commmon sense which is really not so common.

Uncles' Shops

Reliance Fresh stores opened up and agitated the country.UP Govt succeeded to shut it.There is a protest happening in Mumbai.people from all ovder India are gathering. No need to mention that politicians are accompanying them.

I was thinking how much these politicians r thinking about common man.How much common man will be affected with these stores.

People argue that these stores will affect farmers and local Kiryana waalas. I disagree farmers will be any way benefitted.Middle man will go away .they can sell their products directly.I will say they can make a deal with these guys and can be aswsured that their production will not go waste. They can grow their crops according to the demand of these guys. I also heard that Reliance provided a few farmers with the best quality seeds to grow some veg. So how can these poor farmers loose something.Poor farmers are becoming target of politics.

Now lets talk about shops next to our houses. Our Uncles's to whom we are seeing right from child hood.We used to buy our candy's.Some times they used to give it to us for free. Now we r taking about suddenly replacing these uncles with biiiiiiiig players. Will These big store be really able to overtake. It is definetely possible but not at once.it is a slow process. These uncles's shops share a bondage with families.Their main business happen on credit.I think this is the biggest advantage they provide.Just think about salaried class people in small towns. They generally spend their entire salary before 10th of every month. For rest of the days they are dependent on these uncles.

No matter how cheap these big stores sell they cant give these kind of services. So it means there is no direct hit on these shops, surely it has some. But we cant ignore the benefits these big stores provide.Imagine you are getting all the stuff from veg to groccery to cosmetics under one shop.Since the middle man will e out so the products wil be cheaper.Ultimately consumer is benefitted. We are benfitted. Now what will happen to our uncles. But dont you think these big stores cant stablize in small towns wothout local support. So why not to go along with them.Take their franchises. In palce of going against and fighting with the big fish join them.

Some body said our small shops give employment to many uneducated people.Yes they do .Tell me one thing how much do they really pay to these guys for cleaning and weighing. Some peanuts. Now if stores come up won't they be in need of local guys to handle store ,in backend and front end job. What will they be looking in guys for these positions. Some primary level education.Wont it be a good motivation for getting educated.I know in towns generally matric pass people go and run the small shops just because they dont have any thing else to do.Some who cant invest work under Uncles .Isnt it beter for them to be a part a big palyers.

People are just looking at the small picture.or may be our Honourable leaders are misleading them. This is the same situation which was there before industrialisation, computerisation, globalisation. We all know it was for good for all those people who embraced it.People who dint left behind.

India Shinning

My Parents are here now a daz. Yesterdy we went to McDonalds.Had burgers. I had feeling of gratitude and pride. Pride as I was with parents, who hardly roamed around in their life. Today they were sitting in McDonalds. They could not even pronunce the name. But they were enjoying Burgers. They were looking around. They were wondering the way young and neatly dressed up guys were clearing the tables. They were enjoying and I loved it.

Then I saw another elderly couple coming in. They were from Southern part of India. it was evident that thay had come to visit their children. I could sense the same feelings on their face.

I started thinking that they would have never imagined this world. They were living in their own small towns and that was the world for them. I remember my mom spending 20 hrs of day in kitchen. It was her karm bhoomi. My dad busy with his govt job. I know this was the same story in 70% of houses in india. All middle class families were like this. They were just earning enough to raise their kids. They were not in position to look beyond their world. They dint have enough resources and time. But one thing they did was, educating the kids with the best possible options available. As they knew only that could change lives.

But, I doubt they would have imagined a life style what their kids are living now.(especially IT grads). Thanks to globalization, which made this possible. Due to Globalization, Indian grads are getting opportunities to serve the MNCs and earn moolahs. This has not only helped in earning but has also provided the vision to look beyond. As people have immense knowledge available, just on a click. They r exposed to international lifestyle. All this has really added value to Indian middle class. It has raised their standards. I think today parents will be thinking that they made the best investments by educating their kids. All thanx goes to flat world and also indian Govt to acceept this fact and to open the doors.

I think India is truely shininig. May be it is still limited to a small segemnt but the wave has begun :)I can see the shine reflecting in some of the eyes.
IT and Satisfaction

Two months ago I switched job.for various reasons. But the main reason was better work or shall i put it, wanted to do some work.

As in last 2 years We were just waiting for some work to come up.During this wait period all my team members resigned.I still stuck there despite of other offers.Hoping for betterment.

Finally, I resigned and joined a start up.thought start up main kam time waste hoga n acha kaam n responsibilities milega. Some of my other frenz also joined some other companies. But, now ,I feel ,its all the same.every where either there is no work or its junk work.Sorry no offense plz..I know some ppl really work thats why we get our salary(80:20 rule):)

Now I think, whether it happens only in IT industry .That too in Indian IT?As we get work from US .Work which US ppl dont want to do and give it to Indians.

I know I am acting too pasimistic here but I have come across at least 500 SE in India.I never get to see any one happy with what they are doing.

Some ppl say its okie as long as u r getting paid. But I think until you havejob satisfaction u cant put your 100%.

I think there is another view also .Even if you dont have job satisafaction but u know that the tasks u r doing today gonna pay u in longer run.U will be motivated.

As of now both r missing.

I think another problem for this issue is coz even leads dont have clarity .So they r not in a situation to convince.

Is Industry still in nascent stage?

I dont understand,What is the differnce between 2 year developer and 8 yrs experienced one.other than leading some new fools both have to do the same coding and trouble shooting. So What shall I expect from myself 5 yrs from now.<br these matches.Till last over any thing can happen.Really enjoying it.

Some memorable event from these matches

666666 6 consecutive sixes by Yuvraj.Oh
